Infrared sensors on our drones help us detect and assess aquatic vegetation infestations in ponds and lakes. Here’s a survey we completed today to gather data before removing aquatic vegetation. A post removal survey will be done to show the completed project results to the client as well as continue to monitor future growth for planning purposes.
Why do these images look so different than normal RGB (red/green/blue) pictures? The red spectrum of light is filtered out of these pictures so we can assess plant type, health and density. Click the layer button on the top right of the map and you can see what the computer-processed infrared picture looks like and how we use it to assess aquatic plants.
A 3D model helps identify the terrain around the pond as we plan the aquatic vegetation removal project.

An orthomosaic and DEM (digital elevation model) are both useful tools in planning, executing and evaluating our projects.
