Aquatic herbicides are great ways to efficiently control aquatic vegetation, but there are some instances where you need an alternative to herbicides. Or, maybe you need to use some mechanical removal in addition to aquatic herbicides to help prevent a fish kill or produce faster results with less cost of herbicides alone.
Meeting the client's needs first
At the end of the day, This client had a storm water retention pond that had not been managed in some time and was heavily overgrown with alligator weed. Herbicides were a consideration, but we needed to turn around faster results while not loading the pond with new nutrients from decaying vegetation. Also, the client was sensitive to the accumulation of organic sediment from decaying plants.
How did it all come together?
We mobilized one of our Truxor machines and raked out the alligator weed to the shoreline where it was then collected and hauled off to decay and be used as garden compost. The client received same-day results, did not experience a fish kill, no additional nutrients were added to the pond through plant decay in the water, and the byproduct was used to fertilize gardens. Additionally, no chemicals were used, so residents were pleased not to be worried about recreational actives in and around the water.
